[bkk] oasis of tranquility – ad lib

if you’ve been following the café trends of bangkok i’m sure you’ve heard of the new hot hangout spot ad lib by now. is it a hotel? a cafe? it so happens to be both! i actually had no clue till i was there. and if you are following my instagram, it’s no surprise that this place is my current obsession.

anyways, it’s tucked away in the middle of sukhumvit 1/1 – soi that leads to bumrungrad hospital. they describe themselves as a ‘oasis of tranquility’ and i swear it is just that. you go through the maze of hustle and bustle to find yourself at a safe haven. it literally feels like a two different world.

so you enter that door and will find yourself at the lobby of the hotel and and also the café. it co-exists so don’t be surprised when there are people with luggages checking-in right next to you while you’re enjoying your meal.

i’m a sucker for cafés with nice ambiance and outdoor patio and this place has one of the best (and largest) outdoor patios in all of café scenes here in bangkok. they have huge shade over your head that goes from one end to the other as well as fans so don’t worry about being too sweaty over your meal…

now, let’s get into the serious business. the menu was pretty impressive. it covers pretty much all range of food from breakfast/brunch menus to actual ‘serious’ meals like steak, fish, and thai food. (you can check out the menu at the end of the post).

baby spinach and grilled oyster mushroom salad. i normally love anything with mushroom but this one was sautéed a little too much with the oyster sauce.

avocado and tiger prawn salad. i actually changed the dressing to balsamic from cocktail cos i wanted something lighter and refreshing. it was good but i only wish they were more generous with the avocado.

the big english breakfast. it comes with a basket of bread and butter which i thought help live up to its name, the ‘big’ english breakfast.

IMG_0250 copy

wagyu beef burger. those wedges were way too salty. and not that i mind but the waitress asked if we preferred fries or wedges and we asked for fries but they gave us wedges anyway… #justsayin

brioche french toast. it comes with syrup, strawberry jam and crème fraiche on the side which i liked because i can control to the sweetness i like. but i have to say, it’s nothing too mind blowing even though it looks pretty damn good. i only wish it was more moist and flavourful.

pad krapao pla (stir fried dory with holy basil leaves). who would’ve thought i’d say this but this was one of the best dishes i had here, haha. and don’t get me wrong i’m all for brunch but maybe i didn’t like the brunch dishes here as much as i wanted too.

regardless, it is in a nice hotel so you are to expect a very nice, clean and crisp atmosphere. i can tell they’ve put lots of effort into creating this hidden oasis in the midst of the concrete jungle. the staffs, too, are very professional and attentive!

i can’t say for the hotel itself but it seems very nice and modern. i’d definitely check this place out if you’re up for some peace of mind away from the hustle and bustle.

  1. I love the nature-infused backdrop! Somehow the chandeliers remind me of wine glasses hung upside down! There’s a restaurant here where the ceiling is made of shards of glass so that came to my mind when I saw your post :) The food looks amazing too, the english breakfast made my tummy jump a bit :) – Lena

    1. Aw that sounds like a beautiful place! This place is so photogenic, when you’re back we should totally go have brunch tgt! and take tons of photos, of course ;)

      1. I haven’t had much chance to visit Thailand this year ;( But i really like Thailand, as the people there are friendly and the service is great yet down-to-earth!: )
